This year, we're taking our child trick or treating for the first time (well, he was only three weeks' old last year). I'm not very knowledgeable about this custom and so am not quite sure how to handle the candy aspect for a one-year old. Not that I mind him getting a little bit of sugar (birthday cupcake being a good example). But he obviously can't eat bars of chocolate or toffees!

Today I picked up my one-year-old from daycare and he cried because he didn't want to leave. Nothing unusual there. It's a pretty regular occurrence. What was different this time was that the daycare provider told me he's started calling her 'Mama'.

Apparently that's normal - all the kids do it.

Still, it doesn't do much for my already quite well ingrained sense of guilt.
