Nap rarely longer than 45 minutes

Hi all,

Looking for some advise. My 3 month old son is not sleeping for longer than 45 minutes at a time during the day. I know that at his age he is supposed to get at least 5 hours of nap time and 10 hours at night. He is sleeping fine at night (still wakes up ones but that will eventually go away as he grows older and drinks more milk before going to bed ... I hope). However, he might get 2.5 hours of napping during the day if I am lucky. So, I have several questions:
1 - how do I get him to sleep longer than 45 minutes at a pop during the day? He also can't fall asleep on his own during the day - I have to rock him or hold him
2 - any clue on how to get ride of that middle of the night (2 / 3 o'clock) feeding?

Thanks and looking forward to get advise from all of you moms out there.

Just realized this was posted a while back, haven't been checking the group lately!

I don't think my kids ever slept for 5 hours during the day, but they were close (probably between 3 and 4 with 2 naps). 45 minutes, that's tough, I think most babies that age take 2 or 3 naps a day, maybe his timing is just different?

Sounds like he's doing pretty well at night, at 3 months, one waking isn't too bad! The experts say at that age they probably don't need to eat but it's more of a habit to wake up. Everyone handles this differently, we let them cry a bit and that solved the problem for good! But a lot of moms have different opinions on the method.

Hopefully another mom has some suggestions regarding the napping- all I can remember is to make sure it's as dark as you can make it Smiley

Good luck!

Oops, sorry, I overlooked this one too. Two things: 1, at three months I wouldn't worry about the middle-of-the-night feeding just yet. At that age he still needs the nourishment. 2. He might be overtired and that's why he's not sleeping too well. I'd try putting him down a little bit earlier, maybe a half hour earlier. Then again, I went through so many various nap times and lengths with my daughter...I just think as their bodies and minds develop they change so much, and their patterns change right along with them. It could very well be just a phase. Hang in there!
