From bed sharing to crib sleeping
My daughter is 8 months old and she has been co-sleeping with me (and sometimes my husband) since she was about 2 or 3 months, but I am trying to get her to start sleeping in her own bed more often now. Any suggestions to make things easier and go more smoothly? I love sleeping with her beside me, but I am worried about her falling out of the bed while I go to the bathroom and I don't have any rails. Plus, my husband has begun sleeping on the couch, and I miss him! Her crib is in our room, but every time I let her fall asleep while feeding (I am breastfeeding), either lying down or sitting up, it's so hard to lye her down in her crib and keep her asleep. She usually wakes up as I'm lying her down, or even if she does stay asleep, she usually wakes up soon after and stands up looking for me.
Please anyone, any help would be greatly appreciated!

i have a 6 month old i am not done co-sleeping but i came across a great idea in a book when you are having problems getting them into their crib. Put a mattress on the floor next to your bed. Feed baby, when she falls alseep lay on the floor bed with her and make sure she is deeply asleep- limp limbs. Then you go back up on your bed. Put pillows around mattress on floor. When baby wakes up crying lay back down and soothe her back to sleep or breastfeed her back to sleep, whatever she is looking for. Slowly night by night move floor mattress furthur away from your bed and closer to crib. She will get used to you not being right next to you but will know you are close to help her out!

I am not ready to try this myself but I woudl love to know if it works. I have the same fears as you.. my baby naps on the bed , and he wakes up from naps and sometimes doesnt cry. I am CONTanstly worrying he is going to roll off the bed and break his neck or something terrible. And, I do wonder when he can crawl or walk what will he do?

PermalinkWhen my daughter wakes up she doesn't usually cry either if I am not there. She usually just sits up in bed and waits for me, but I worry that one day she will fall off the bed! I am going to try your idea. i will let you know how it goes.
