Fever 2nd year molars???

My daughter has had a fever for 5 days(today is number 5). She went to the doctor and they said one of her ears was a little red and she has been on an Antibiotic for 3 days. She is taking Tylenol every 4-6 hours and as soon as it wears off her fever goes back up. She is 2 years old usually heathly I have checked her teeth and it looks like one molar has already come thru and the other just cut the gums. Could this be the problem and does anyone have a similar experiance with the 2 year molars? Never had this problem(that I can remember) with my others.

Sounds like 2 year molar teething to me. My daughter would cut 2-4 teeth at a time most of the time she didn't have a fever until her molars. She would always get cold symptoms...runny/stuffy nose, cough, red ears, CRANKY!! It made it very difficult to figure out if she was sick or teething. When she cut her molars she ran a high fever for a few days...thankfully all 4 cut in within 2 weeks. Ibruprophen(Advil) lasts much longer then Tylenol for pain relief and Tylenol works better for reducing fevers(in my experience). I would give her Ibruprophen at sleep times and Tylenol during wake times. I never gave my daughter antibiotic for the red ears unless my pediatrician was sure it was an actual ear infection. Otherwise I would wait until the teeth came in and then take her back to the doctor to make sure her ears were cleared. Most of the time ear "redness" isn't an infection warranting antibiotics, and giving them when not truely needed will only make them ineffective when she does have an actual infection. For infant teething a frozen wash cloth worked to sooth my daughters gums, but at 2 she didn't chew on things as much. I would give her freeze pops, the cold in her mouth would give her some relief too. I also gave her harder foods she would have to use her back teeth to chew up, such as apple wedges, pretzel sticks, raw carrots...etc. They would help her cut her gums without really noticing. Hang in there...it's almost over!

We also took our daughter's pacifiers, filled the nipple with water and froze them. It really helped her and sometimes it was enough to help her sleep.
As for the fever, if your daughter is good with baths, try a nice cool bath. It'll break the fever as well and it's not as hard on her little system as Tylenol
